Bad Karma Leads to DUI Arrest

By Ben Sessions on December 6th, 2014 in Uncategorized

As Labor Day weekend kicks off, this fellows fate should serve as a reminder to all of us that stiffing your bartender is never a good thing:

Police: Unpaid bar tab leads to arrest on DWI charge

PORTSMOUTH — A Rye man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after a restaurant worker phoned police to say he and another man left without paying their drink tab, according to police.

Just before 9 p.m. Monday, police were called by an employee of Kim Lai at 559 Lafayette Road, who said, “two intoxicated males didn’t pay for their drinks and now they are leaving the parking lot drunk,” according to the city’s public police log. Based on a witness description, the suspects’ car was stopped by an officer on Sagamore Road, police said. The driver, Griffin York, 32, of 1359 Ocean Blvd., is charged with DWI, according to police.

Meanwhile, the passenger was released to a third party and a friend paid the bar tab at the restaurant, police said.

After he was booked, York was released on personal recognizance bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 15 in the Portsmouth Circuit Court.
