Man Charged With Two Counts of Vehicular Homicide & Multiple Traffic Offenses

By Ben Sessions on July 1st, 2018 in Car / Auto Accident

In Columbus, GA, 30-year-old Darion Mitchell, has been charged with multiple traffic offenses and two counts of vehicular homicide for the death of Lee Edward Heath and Anthony Jensen for an accident that occurred near J.R. Allen Parkway.

Before the accident, the two pedestrians, Heath and Jensen, were standing on the side of Heath’s 2011 Toyota Tundra, parked on the east side of I-185 northbound. According to one witness, the pick up truck had its hazard lights while parked, as the pedestrians were filling up Heath’s pick up truck with gas.

At approximately 5:08 AM, Mitchell drove his 2017 Nissan Sentra northbound when he struck the pick up truck’s rear bumper. In the process of hitting the Toyota Tundra, Mitchell also struck the two pedestrians. Mitchell’s Nissan spun northeast towards J.R. Allen Parkway’s westbound exit ramp and stopped at the ramp.

The injuries the pedestrians were fatal as they were both pronounced dead at the scene when police arrived.
