THE NATIONAL SAFETY COUNCIL HAS ISSUED AN ESTIMATE OF THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT WILL DIE IN CAR WRECKS THIS JULY 4TH WEEKEND.
The National Safety Council is one of the nation’s leading non-profits on the forefront of helping to reduce roadway dangers. The National Safety Council produces an enormous amount of data regarding the dangers presented to motorists and pedestrians on our roadways. Typically, prior to major holidays the National Safety County will produce a prediction regarding the number of fatalities that will occur on the roadways.
For the July 4th weekend of 2017, the National Safety Council predicted that 582 people would lose their life on the road. They further predicted that an additional 66,900 would be seriously injured in crashes.
These predictions startle many of us. Instead of decreasing, the numbers of fatalities and serious injuries suffered on our roads are actually increasing. The figures predicted by the National Safety Council are the highest issued since 2006 for a four-day July 4 holiday period. The holiday period begins at 6 p.m. ET Friday, June 30 and ends at 11:59 p.m. ET Tuesday, July 4.
