If you’re like me, you probably wonder what are the most common causes of commercial truck accidents. It is obviously difficulty to pinpoint any particular factor as the most common cause of commercial truck accidents without conducting a study with a tremendous sample size. That type of study requires a lot of planning and organization across a large geographic area and by many agencies (law enforcement, emergency medical service personnel, fire departments, towing agencies, etc.). Fortunately, the National Highway Safety Administration has published a study based upon the work of the United States Department of Transportation and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regarding the causes of large truck accidents.
The The United States Department of Transportation undertook to study causes of accidents involving large trucks. The Large Truck Crash Causation Study is based on 3 years of data. The Large Truck Causation Study is the 1st study of its kind, and it is designed to work towards determining causes and related factors that cause serious large truck accident. The Large Truck Crash Causation Study was intended to assist agencies in developing rules promoting the safety of large truck operators.
The sophistication of the Large Truck Crash Causation Study is really pretty impressive. Within the multi-agency study, there are actually subgroups of people that were designated to maintain the collection of data according the standards for the study.
What we intend to do going forward is summarize the data and finding of the Large Truck Crash Causation Study and, hopefully, provide some advice on steps that you can take to prevent accidents with and minimize the risks associated with large and commercial trucks on our roadways.
