How do I pay medical bills after an injury?

Paying for Medical Treatment After an Injury

Transcript:

It’s really common for people that have been hurt and accident to go to a hospital and say, look, this all was not my fault. I was hurting accident. My health insurer should not be at all responsible for the bills that are incurred as a result of my treatment here. Then they’ll say to the hospital, like, I don’t want to provide my health insurance information because I wasn’t at fault for this accident. So I shouldn’t be making any sort of claim. He gets my health insurance. That is a really natural thing to say. And it probably can not be a bigger mistake for most people. Um, if you don’t provide your health insurance information, then you don’t get the benefit of the contractual right down that the hospital has. But with your health insurer, that means that whatever agreed upon amount of the health insurer usually will provide, for example, for an MRI, um, you don’t get the benefit of that write down.

So let’s say your health insurer would usually pay less than a thousand dollars for a $3,000 MRI. Well then whenever that bill hasn’t been paid, you’re going to have to negotiate with the hospital, um, on a $3,000 bill instead of less than a thousand dollars that your health insurer would have paid. In addition to that, if your health insurer actually pays out mountain, so you can, you can negotiate with them over any sort of reimbursement that may be owed for them, for it. If you don’t provide your health insurance information, you’re almost certainly going to have, what’s called a hospital lien that you’re gonna have to deal with. The hospital. Lien is going to involve the hospital, trying to get recovery for the entire amount of the services that they provided. You can avoid a lot of these troubles just on the front end, just by go ahead and providing your health insurance. And I promise you, it will net you more money at the end of the day in your actual settlement from the case. If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a line.
