TIP OF THE DAY NO. 6: KEEP A DAILY JOURNAL AFTER YOUR CAR ACCIDENT

By Ben Sessions on June 27th, 2017 in Tips of the Day

KEEP A DAILY JOURNAL AFTER YOUR CAR ACCIDENT

One of the most difficult and trying aspects of a car accident case is the passage of time. Time is necessary for you to heal following a car accident or any personal injury, but time also puts pressure on you and your family financially and it becomes emotionally draining dealing with the uncertainty of an injury case over a protracted period of time. Beyond the stress that the passage of time places upon you and your family, the passage of time can also severely impact the quality of your case. One of the primary means by which your case can be affected by the passage of time is that you may be less able to describe how the accident affected you and your family 2 or 3 years, for example, than if you were asked about how your injuries following a car accident affected you 6 months after the accident. So, what can we do to fix this problem? One of the simplest things that you can do is keep a daily journal detailing your injuries, treatment, treatment progress, and pain levels. Describe your injuries in an as much detail as possible. Describe what is happening in your life following the accident. This type of detail will help you when you are being asked by an insurer about your treatment and injuries down the road. If you keep a daily journal, you will not have to worry about missing a significant portion of your treatment history. Also, many of our clients find that keeping a daily journal after your car accident and describing their injuries and treatment helps them gain some level of self-awareness and actually helps them cope with their injuries in a more healthy way.
