Gray Personal Injury Lawyer

Gray is a small county seat twenty minutes north of Macon, and that geography shapes almost every injury case that comes out of Jones County: the crash happens on a two-lane road here, the ambulance goes to a hospital in Bibb County, and the lawsuit gets filed back in Gray.

We have an office on Mulberry Street in Macon, a short drive down US 129. Ben Sessions has tried more than 60 jury trials in Georgia and spent the early part of his career defending insurance companies, which is a useful thing to have done before you start suing them.

Where a Jones County injury case is actually filed

  • Superior Court of Jones County, in Gray, hears the civil injury cases that matter. Jones County sits in the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit, along with Baldwin, Greene, Hancock, Jasper, Morgan, Putnam and Wilkinson counties. The District Attorney’s main office is at the Jones County Government Center, 166 Industrial Boulevard in Gray.
  • Magistrate Court handles civil claims up to $15,000. That is fine for a property-damage-only fender bender and almost never the right venue for an injury claim.

Because the circuit also covers Baldwin County, a Jones County case and a Milledgeville case often move through the same judges and the same calendars. We practice in both.

Rural roads, worse crashes

Jones County was 83 percent rural at the 2020 census. US 129 and Ga. 11 carry Macon commuter traffic through Gray at highway speed, past driveways and farm entrances, frequently with no median and no shoulder. The predictable result is head-on and left-turn collisions at closing speeds that do not happen inside a city.

Two practical consequences. Response times are longer, so the gap between the crash and the first medical assessment is longer. And there is often no traffic camera, no business surveillance, and no independent witness — which makes the scene evidence that disappears in the first days unusually important. We cover that in what to do in the first 48 hours after a crash.

In a county like this, your own coverage usually decides the case

Georgia’s minimum liability coverage is $25,000 per person. On a rural highway crash with a helicopter transport and a surgery, that is gone before anyone has discussed pain and suffering. In most serious Jones County cases the real source of recovery is the injured person’s own uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage — and whether that coverage is “add-on” or “reduced-by” changes the number dramatically.

Read why your own UM policy usually matters most. If you take one thing from this page, take that.

What the case is worth changed in 2025

Senate Bill 68 took effect in April 2025 and changed how Georgia juries are asked to value a claim — billed versus paid medical expenses, how non-economic damages may be argued, and whether liability and damages are tried together. The old “multiply the medical bills” shorthand does not survive it. See what an injury case is worth in Georgia after SB 68.

What has not changed: Georgia’s modified comparative negligence rule. If you are 50 percent or more at fault you recover nothing, and any fault below that reduces your recovery proportionally.

The hospital bill will follow you into the settlement

Jones County residents are usually treated at hospitals in Macon. Those hospitals file liens. A lien filed against your claim can take a large share of a settlement, and liens are frequently defective, frequently overstated, and more negotiable than people assume. See hospital liens and what you actually keep.

Deadlines

Two years from the date of injury for a personal injury claim in Georgia. Four years for property damage. If a county vehicle, a city vehicle or a government employee was involved, a much shorter ante litem notice deadline applies and missing it ends the claim outright — this comes up more often in rural counties than people expect, because school buses, sheriff’s vehicles and road department trucks are a real share of the traffic.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I get the accident report for a wreck in Gray?

From whichever agency worked the crash — the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, the Gray Police Department, or the Georgia State Patrol post that responded. Which agency it was is not always obvious from the scene, and getting this wrong costs a week.

Do I have to come to Macon to meet with you?

No. We will come to you, and a great deal can be handled without a trip anywhere.

What does it cost?

Nothing up front. Injury cases are handled on a contingency fee — no fee unless we recover.

Should I talk to the other driver’s adjuster?

Not before you have talked to a lawyer. Your own carrier is a different question, and there may be notice obligations you have to meet quickly.
